Literary historians take note: July 11 is the anniversary of the publication of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. It was published on this day in 1960 by J.B. Lippincott. The novel followed the story of young Scout Finch who comes of age in the backdrop of a small Alabama town during the Great Depression. It quickly became a bestseller and was also awarded the Pulitzer Prize a year later, in 1961. This novel was Harper Lee’s only published work for over 50 years, until the novel’s sequel, Go Set a Watchman, was published in 2015.
